                                                                   NOTICE OF POSITION
 
POSITION:               
The Interim Superintendent of Schools, Donald A. Ogilvie., is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
 
 
                            ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, a permanent/professional teaching certification in Special Education and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL) certificate by the time of appointment. 
 
EXPERIENCE:         
Candidates must have completed eight (8) years of approved and appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience, at least four (4) years of which must have been at an administrative level.  Experience as a building principal is desirable.
                                                           
 

 

DUTIES:                   
Specifically, the Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for:

 
Leadership and Management

 
  • supervise and facilitate the development of leadership and management skills of building level administrators and all certified and non-certified staff in the Department of Special Education.
Curriculum and Instruction:  
 
  • supervise the work of special education district administrators to ensure quality instruction as related to students with disabilities and exceptional needs and their integration into the regular school program.
  • assist building level administrators with the development of teaching staff to ensure quality instruction is taking place for students with disabilities and exceptional needs.
Human Resources
 
  • supervise the work of Special Education administrators, and assist principals, to ensure that the process and procedures used to identify, recruit, employ, develop, evaluate and retain personnel are congruent with district needs and expectations, and policies.
Fiscal and Business Operations
 
  • evaluate building level and district special education and gifted and talented initiatives to ensure that the district’s resources are managed efficiently and appropriately.
School/Community /Business Relations
 
  • become active in community affairs to develop a close working relationship between the city schools and the community at large, particularly those organizations that advocate for students with disabilities.
 
 
Professional Development

 
  • assist in the planning and implementation of the district’s professional development program and model the personal and professional expectations held for district personnel by demonstrating a commitment to growth and renewal.
 
 
SELECTION:          
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
 
 
SALARY:                     Administrator’s salary schedule.
 
                                    Anticipated start date:  December 1, 2014
