POSITION:                         
The Interim Superintendent of Schools, Donald A. Ogilvie, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for
Grades 9 - 12 summer school teaching positions:
                                                               
GUIDANCE – GRADES 9-12
 
TBA (Locations subject to change based upon site availability.)
                               
Staff dates:                                      July 15 – August 18, 2015
Library staff dates:                           July 15 – August 13, 2015                
Student instruction dates:                 July 15 – August 13, 2015
 
Regents exams to be held:                August 12, 13, and 14, 2015
Rating and Grade Input:                    August 17 and 18, 2015
                                                               
Staff hours:           8:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.    
Student hours:      8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

QUALIFICATIONS:        
Candidates must be New York State or Buffalo certified in the tenure area for which they are applying to teach. Priority
in the selection of teachers will be given to qualified permanent/ tenured/probationary/temporary Buffalo Public School
counselors in order of summer school seniority.
 
JOB SUMMARY:
Position requires the planning, organization, and implementation of the appropriate instructional program to address the learning
needs of the students; to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their potential in both curricular and
extracurricular activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Request information needed form feeder high schools.
  • Tally course requests from all high school to determine # of sections needed.
  • Assist with creating and printing schedules for students and teachers.
  • Identify for teachers of regent classes which students need to pass the course only, exam only or both.
  • Assist with student registration/ do late registrations for students who are assigned to the hub school
  • Enter course selection.
  • Provide a list of students who are challenging the exam.
  • Make needed schedule changes.
  • Make sure that all schools assigned to the hub receive the average/ exam results needed for students.
  • Ensuring that summer school grades are input so that student schedules reflect promotion/ retention where necessary.
  • Working with parents/ guardians that call and visit school who have questions regarding interpreting exam scores & passing.
  • Provide appropriate feedback on student work.
  • Monitor and encourage individual student progress.
  • Provide guidance to students which will promote educational development.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
  • Update records accurately and completely as required by laws and district policies.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Manage student behavior and maintain discipline by establishing classroom rules and procedures and enforcing classroom, school, and district rules and procedures.
  • Cooperate with and participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the total school program.
  • Foster and maintain effective communication with parents and/or guardians.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

ORIENTATION:
Paid teacher preparation session is scheduled for July 14, 2015 (3 hour session). Successful candidates are encouraged to attend.

APPOINTMENT:             
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent following
assessment of summer school seniority, training, credentials, and evaluation of service.  Interviews shall be scheduled
where appropriate.
 
SALARY:                             Teacher hourly rate based on BTF contract.
