                              NOTICE OF POSITION





                     POSITION:       The Superintendent of Schools, Pamela C. Brown, Ed.D., is interested in
receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
 
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAM
COORDINATOR (0.6 FTE) / SECONDARY CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION (0.4 FTE)
AT CITY HONORS SCHOOL- P.S. #195

QUALIFICATIONS:            Candidates must hold a New York State teaching certificate.  Candidates
must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. They must be able to
work cooperatively with individuals and groups in problem solving, develop a strong collegial and
collaborative relationship with other teachers in the building, have a strong sense of responsibility
for the academic and developmental welfare of students, and be able and willing to create an
environment that stimulates learning and the personal development of children. Possessing a
strong knowledge of instructional technology and a fundamental understanding of the MYP
requirements are highly desirable traits.
 
EXPERIENCE:      
   Coordination and/or teaching experience with the International Baccalaureate
Program will be considered. 


DUTIES:           The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program Coordinator
acts as a pedagogical leader of the MYP in the school and, has a central function
in the organization of the program. The MYP coordinator maintains contact with
school administration, subject area leaders, teachers, students, parents, and the IBO. 
Additional duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Ensures that students and teachers meet the IB’s program requirements
  • and comply with the IB’s general regulations.
  • Oversees implementation of the Areas of Interaction according to the IB guidelines.
  • Ensures that the concept of international-mindedness and the IB Learner
  • Profile permeate all subject areas.
  • Provides in-service training to MYP staff.
  • Ensures that teachers possess all relevant IB documentation, keeps up to date
  • and informs all staff of recent developments and new publications.
  • Assists in setting up systems for communication and cooperation of the entire
  • professional staff in implementing the program.
  • Ensures that the MYP Personal Project procedures are carried out properly and
  • reflect the spirit of the MYP requirements.
  • Plans and coordinates the annual “Personal Project Evening” for the benefit of
  • students and the school community.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records and portfolios of all students in
  • grades 5-10.
  • Assists staff in preparing lessons in accordance with MYP philosophy.
  • Develops and administers the MYP budget.
  • Registers, participates in, and sets up on-site, off-site and out-of-town training
  • for staff.
  • Ensures that all BPS requisitions are properly filed and monitored through
  • the finance process.
  • Initiates and coordinates special programming for students and parents related
  • to the mission of the MYP.  Current examples include responsibility for
    instructional integration of the school’s community/learning garden as
    well as the Anne Frank Project in collaboration with Buffalo State College.
  • Supervises grade 11 students in the Diploma Program in successfully meeting
  • “Creativity, Action, Service” (CAS) requirements.
  • Educates community regarding IB MYP Program.
  • Assists school principal, SBMT and PTSCO in implementing special initiatives
  • that support MYP goals.
  • MYP Coordinator teaches two periods a day in their certified content area (s)
  • or IB Theory of Knowledge course depending upon scheduling needs of school principal.
  • Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be
  • assigned or arise due to the nature of the position.

 
 
APPOINTMENT:      
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the
recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience,
credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews shall be scheduled
where appropriate.
