QUALIFICATIONS:
The Buffalo Public School District is seeking a Webmaster/Trainer to maintain BPS district website and facilitate training for staff responsible for maintaining departmental, school, and teacher websites. The candidate must be a NYS certified teacher currently employed in the Buffalo Public Schools with contract status. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and demonstrate leadership and interpersonal communication skills with all district stakeholders. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong collaborative, team-oriented, and flexible approach to partnered work. Candidate must have a strong technical background. Balancing a creative eye with an analytical mind is essential.

 

EXPERIENCE:

In evaluating each candidate’s qualifications, consideration will be given to the candidate’s coursework and experiences in web development, graphic design, communication via social media/digital environments and creation of content for online learning.

 

The candidate should also possess:

  • Thorough knowledge of BPS curriculum and instructional models
  • Understanding of the appropriate uses of digital resources, learning management systems and social media in K-12 education
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of multiple staff development models and approaches
  • Experience in planning, leading and facilitating staff development opportunities with a variety of stakeholders
  • Proven experience in website development including proficiency in using website management tools, Blackboard WCM or a similar product
  • Working knowledge of ADA compliance regulations, web analytics, SEO and web standards
  • Proficiency in HTML/CSS, XML; knowledge of SQL and JavaScript is preferred

 

DUTIES:

The Webmaster/Trainer will be responsible for making sites easy to use, attractive and secure. The successful candidate will ensure the functionality and efficiency of our BPS website infrastructure.

The Webmaster/Trainer may be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Maintaining, configuring and troubleshooting district homepage and departmental webpages

Testing websites for functionality across browsers, operating systems and devices

Ensuring site security

Optimizing loading speeds and capacity

Debugging pages and fixing broken links

Updating website content and reviewing SEO

Monitoring and analyzing site performance

Maintaining Accessibility and ADA compliance

  • Providing instruction to staff in use of Blackboard website management tools, best practices of web design, copyright and ADA compliance
  • Providing professional development on all facets of digital communication during the school day, curricular/common planning time meetings, when available after school, and on Saturdays
  • Collaboration with district administrators, building administrators, district, and building coaches in the planning for and facilitation of district and school-based professional development sessions
  • Management of user accounts and permissions
  • Coordination and preparation of the annual BPS printed calendar
  • Continuously developing and improving own capacity, and the capacity of others, to improve communication with various stakeholders through digital media
  • Maintaining a professional portfolio
  • Maintaining calendar and/or activity log to document activities as required
  • Attending district PLOs as directed
  • Performing other duties as assigned

APPOINTMENT:   
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certification, credentials and evaluation of service. Candidates will be asked to provide a digital portfolio including samples of work in web design and training/staff development. Template will be provided to qualified applicants. Special consideration will be given to those with experience in the position. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
