POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have a Master’s degree, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL) certificate by the time of appointment.  Candidates must have a minimum of eight (8) years of approved and appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience, and at least four (4) years must be at the supervisory/administrative level; possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and have a working understanding of student support models is required.   Candidates with prior administrative experience in the field of student support services and in an urban school district with a large racially and economically diverse population are preferred.
                                                                       
 
DUTIES: 
The Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services will be responsible for championing academic and non-academic supports for all students at Buffalo Public Schools, ensuring that all children receive the support needed to be successful in school, graduate from graduate from high school, and be prepared for college or a high-paying career. The position, subject to the direction, approval of the Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services, shall be responsible for:
  • Developing and integrating long-range district-wide student support plans and monitoring systems for initiatives and responsibilities supervised by the Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services.
  • Acting as the Superintendent’s designee in all matters related to student discipline as defined in NYS Education Law 3214 and overseeing the district’s due process proceedings.
  • Identifying community partnerships and service on committees related to student support services.
  • Participating as a member of the Division Heads Administrative team.
  • Working very closely with the Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership in developing and overseeing school wide student supports.
  • Working with direct reports with strategic planning, monitoring systems, budget development, and implementation plans for major initiatives.
  • Researching, writing, editing and reviewing correspondence and preparing reports.  Responding to school-based and central office staff by providing policy and legal interpretations.
  • Responding to questions from board members, parents, principals, and community regarding discipline, attendance, school counseling, educational supports, and student placement issues and related policies.
  • Collaborating and analyzing system-wide student data, and makes collaborative recommendations for adjustments in educational initiatives and budge support based on student results. 
  • Providing leadership in the development and review of policies, systems, and procedures to provide effective and coordinated delivery of support services to all students.
  • Engaging school leaders and instructional experts to maximize student attendance, minimize student suspensions and ensure effective and efficient delivery of academic and non-academic support services.
  • Collaborating with community members and leaders and district and school leaders to promote student success.
  • Strategically and periodically evaluating district services and programs for students; identifying opportunities for greater effectiveness, efficiency and cost savings.
  • Systematizing and streamlining student support procedures including through technology integration.
  • Promoting transparency and codify processes within the Office of Student Support Services.
  • Building a strong customer service culture within the Office of Student Support Services.
  • Creating and implementing policies and systems that authentically engage parents and the community.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.  
REPORTING:
The Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services will report to the Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services and will manage a team of professionals in the areas of Student Support Services (Pupil Personnel, Attendance, Health Related, School Counseling, Student Placement Services) and Parent and Family Engagement.

  • Extensive team management experience, including building and managing teams to meet ambitious goals and prioritizing and aligning resources to meet organizational needs
  • Strong problem solving skills, ability to analyze root causes and develop effective solutions as needed
  • Exceptional project management skills and an ability to balance big picture priorities with details 
 
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
