NOTICE OF POSITIONPOSITION:
The Interim Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Donald A. Ogilvie, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALIST for READING
(Supervisor of Reading K-12)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, NYS certification in Reading, and a school administrator certificate (SDA, SAS, SDL) with demonstrated knowledge of the application of scientifically research based reading.
EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must have completed three years of approved and appropriate teaching experience in Reading or teaching in the classroom grades K-8. Candidates must be familiar with NYS Common Core Learning Standards and ELA assessment, DIBELS and other District assessments and be proficient in the use of technology.
DUTIES:
The Instructional Specialist for Reading will be assigned to the English Language Arts (ELA) Department. The Instructional Specialist for Reading will collaborate and coordinate with the Director of English Language Arts (ELA) and other appropriate instructional staff in the Teaching and Learning Department all aspects of the design, implementation, and oversight of Reading, including appropriate special education and multilingual education components, K-12. Completion of training in scientifically based reading research is required. Responsibilities include:
- Directing the full and ongoing implementation of the Buffalo Public Schools Reading Program (K-12) based on scientifically based reading;
- Providing instructional support for schools as they implement a core/replacement core reading program based on current research;
- Oversight of district-wide and building level professional development;
- Monitoring the Student Data System;
- Analysis data to monitor building effectiveness;
- Analyzing data to drive instructional decisions;
- Managing of resources to ensure that initiatives have both fiscal and personnel adequacy;
- Providing immediate intervention when progress of children in a group, class, grade level or school is not proficient.
- Supervises Support Reading Teachers and Literacy Coaches.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additionally, the Instructional Specialist for Reading carries out the responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of ELA, the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and the Chief Academic Officer.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.
SALARY: Administrator’s (Supervisor) salary schedule.
