POSITION:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have NYS permanent teacher certification in Special Education and have 3-5 years of successful classroom experience in an
urban school district. Candidates must have extensive knowledge of the Buffalo Public Schools Academic Achievement Plan, Federal and State
regulations pertaining to Special Education, extensive knowledge of Individual Education Program development and successful parent relations
in a school or district setting that are verifiable. Consideration will be given to candidates with background working with students with autism as a
pproximately 10% of the City Honors student body is a part of the school’s STARS Program (STudents with Autism Rising to Success).
 
LOCATION:              City Honors School #195
 
DUTIES:                    
The Student Support Team Chair will organize, monitor, and maintain records for the BPS initiative as well as for the interventions implemented
through the Student Support Team.  The chair will conference with parents about alternatives to special education referral.  The Student Support
Team Chair will organize, implement, and oversee all Committee on Special Education processes as outlined in the Commissioner’s Regulations
and Federal Law for timely and exemplary implementation.  The chair will verify that student responses to interventions are documented by staff
prior to referral, monitor Individual Education Plan (IEP) compliance and provide the principal with solutions to compliance deficits.  The Student
Support Team Chair will perform observations and testing as required by the Central Committee on Special Education and assist the Committee
on Special Education in the appropriate development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan.  The chair will also support all teachers
with strategies for effective IEP implementation. The Student Support Team Chair at City Honors serves as the leader of the STARS Program,
creating ongoing professional development for teachers and assistants in working with students on the autism spectrum, developing programmatic
enhancements, managing partnerships and curricular decision-making in collaboration with the school administration. City Honors is a grade 5-12
International Baccalaureate World School, and as such requires additional training and travel for training. The Chair collaborates regularly and closely
with the social worker, psychologist, Say Yes! Coordinator and school counselors.
                                                               
 

 
APPOINTMENT:      
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience,
credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
 
 
 
SALARY:                   Teachers salary schedule based on BTF contract plus $300.
