DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS 

 

The Senior Systems Analyst performs specialized technical work in conducting detailed methods and systems surveys of department or division operations with a view to applying electronic data processing methods.  An incumbent is responsible for the planning, designs, and analysis of requirements for the implementation and development of student and teacher related information systems.  Incumbents in this position coordinate the activities of subordinate Analysts and Programmers working within a department, unit, or project team in the design, development and analysis of data processing systems. Supervision is received from a higher level technical administrator or supervisor, with some leeway for independent judgment.  The incumbents will have supervisory duties over personnel assigned.
 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 
 

·         Participates in meetings and conferences with New York State ED (NY SED), and district administration to understand requirements for Teacher and Student Evaluations;

 

·         Confers with district administration and teaching staff to resolve complex electronic procedural, operational, and technical  issues related to the development and implementation of electronic teacher evaluation processes and procedures (APPRs) and Student Learning Objectives (SLOs);

 

·         Supports and maintains a computerized system to track teachers professional growth  development and certifications;

·         Develops work plans and time schedules for electronic projects including outlining phases, and identifying personnel and computing equipment requirements;

-       monitors workload and progress;

-       revises schedule and plans as needed;

·         Participates with management personnel in planning, directing and coordinating operational and/or procedural matters to meet the goals and objectives of the project;

 

·         Evaluates hardware and software products, and programming languages to determine their applicability to the system and/or project;

·         Performs network administration functions such as maintaining user accounts and passwords, installing, upgrading, and maintaining software on servers, and troubleshooting and resolving connectivity issues;

-       may consult with outside vendors to resolve user, connectivity, and programming issues.; 

 

·         Completes various reports and summaries for management and/or users, including status reports, problems, progress summaries, and system utilization reports;

·         Modifies and/or writes program code and/or job control language as needed;

 

·         Coordinates data transfers for information sharing between systems, internal departments and outside entities. 
 

·         Responds to inquiries, questions, etc. and provides technical assistance and/or training to system users;

-       assists in developing training or conduct training in computer systems and software as needed;

·         Reviews and analyzes system problems including system documentation and production output to identify solutions and/or make appropriate referrals;

-       obtains project quotations and arrange for the purchase of new technology; prepare invoice payments as necessary;

-       assists in the preparation of bid specification, and analysis of bid proposals for computer and network equipment and software; 

 

·         Confers with other computing personnel to solve complex procedural, operational and technical problems;

 

·         Participates in the development of system and programming standards; 

 

·         Performs related duties as required.

Continuous and permanent status in any city department as a Systems Analyst for two years.
