                                                                        NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
 
                                                 College & Career Readiness Coordinator
                                (College and Career Readiness Planning & Support)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have at least three years of high school counseling experience, possess a Master’s Degree in Counseling Education, and hold a current NYS Certificate in Counseling Education. Candidates should be knowledgeable in theoretical and evidence based methodologies that focus on Comprehensive School Counselor philosophies. A thorough understanding of college admissions, data analysis and researching scholarship applications for students is necessary. Preference will be given to applicants with current City of Buffalo residency. 
 
DUTIES:
The College and Career Readiness Coordinator will lead the development, monitoring and implementation of college and career readiness programming throughout the Buffalo Public Schools. Establish collegiate and community partnerships to  strengthen the Buffalo Public School college readiness activities and programming. Responsible for articulating the Buffalo Public Schools and Say Yes Buffalo vision for preparing students to participate in post-secondary collegiate institutions.
 
Expectations of the College Readiness Coordinator include, but are not limited to the following:
 
Student Engagement
Provide student support;
  • Work with counselors to notify and provide assistance to those students who are not meeting scholarship and graduation requirements;
  • Maintain a database for the purpose of tracking the progress of scholarship students to determine whether they are completing their scholarship requirements;
     
    Promote A College-Going Environment;
  • Assist in the development and coordination of 6-12 college readiness activities that promote a college going mindset among BPS students (i.e. facilitating campus visits, assisting with the college search process, administering career exploration tools, SAT, PSAT, and ACT registration, college applications and essays, the financial aid process including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the NY Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), the Say Yes to Education registration and appeal process, and an array of college scholarship applications, etc.);
    • Collaborate with the College Success Centers to provide college readiness activities;
    • Assist with the development of short and long-range goals and timelines for ancillary instructional and student support projects. Make classroom presentations regarding college readiness;
    • Plan and participate in monthly targeted and school-wide college readiness activities;
    • Organize and supervise financial aid process and college entry testing, college information visits and workshops on post-secondary and college access;
    • Establish and maintain collegiate partnerships that support college readiness;
    • Collaborate with school counselors in organizing college tours for students and organizing other celebratory/connecting events and activities;
    • Ensure that every school has college preparation materials available for students and curriculums(elementary and high) including college entrance exams, college selection and applications, and scholarship applications(high only);
    • Meet with parents, teachers, faculty and staff to share information about college readiness and work with them to ensure student participation in college bound activities;
    • Meet with students to discuss the value of taking honors AP and/or Dual Credit courses and map out a plan of action for meeting their career/college aspirations;
    • Assist school counselors in the notification of PSAT, SAT and ACT dates as well as provide assistance with registration, follow-up and support as needed;
    • Assist students with college recommendation letters, scholarship applications, essays, financial aid, and meeting application deadlines; assist school counselors when meeting with students. This is the role of the counselor.
            Parental Engagement
  • Engage parents in understanding the importance of college access and financial aid at schools and through the district’s Parent Centers;
  • Work collaboratively with school counselors to visit PTA and other parent group meetings to present, answer questions about college readiness;
  • Facilitate college tours for parents;
     
    Administrative Duties
  • Meet on a monthly basis with district staff to update status, address needs and concerns;
  • Prepare monthly status reports to be presented to district staff;
  • Prepare other reports as requested;
  • Attend community events to share information;
  • Work with local colleges and universities to strengthen the BPS college readiness programming;
  • Establish and maintain relationship with college university representation; and
  • Maintain all files, records, reports and documents in a safe, confidential, and efficient manner;
  • Work with district webmaster to publicize announcements and events through the district website.

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
