POSITION:               
The Interim Superintendent of Schools, Donald A. Ogilvie, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
 

                                           INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALIST III

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have a Master’s degree, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL) certificate by the time of
appointment.  Candidate with prior instructional leadership roles and/or administrative experience in an urban school district is preferred.
 
Instructional Specialist III: Candidates must have a minimum of eight (8) years certified teaching and Supervisory experience, three (3) years at the Supervisory level.
 
 
                                                                       

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  
The Instructional Specialist will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

 
Instructional Management

 
  • Monitor instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.
  • Assists with hiring of physical education and health teachers
  • Participates in grievances regarding the Physical Education and Health department
  • Support Athletic Director and Supervisor in developing instructional and curriculum services to meet student’s needs.
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs with principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques.
  • Ensure department is properly utilizing research, resources and data to improve the content, sequence, and results of the teaching and learning process.
  • Assist in the planning of necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of educational goals.
  • Participate in the district-level decision making process, for the Physical Education department, to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs.
  • Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and the district performance objectives.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings, including student achievement data, to examine curriculum and instructional program effectiveness.
  • Assist in planning and providing effective staff development activities that incorporate the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from teachers and others.
 
 
 
 
 
 
School or Organization Improvement

 
  • Support common vision for school improvement. Assist the department in planning activities and necessary programming is in place to ensure attainment of district vision.
  • Partner with school principals, Assistant Superintendent and the necessary staff to identify, analyze, and apply research findings to promote school improvement.
                                   
 
 
Personnel Management

 
  • Define expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies and support implementation of strategies.
  • Work with school level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.
  • Provide for two-way communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community.
  • Monitor professional research and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
 
 
Professional Growth and Development

 
  • Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
 
 
Other

 
  • Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business.
  • Provides advice and counsel for teachers and principals on matters pertaining to instruction. Plans and implements staff development programs for school staffs.
  • Directs the planning, development, field-testing, and evaluation of curriculum;
  • Assists the textbook adoption process;
  • Directs the publication and provision of division-wide instructional-related staff development, including in-service training designed to support implementation of newly developed curricula;
  • Contributes to the proposal and implementation of college courses to support curriculum development or program implementation;
  • Interprets statutes and regulations for staff and community;
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
 
 
APPOINTMENT:      
Appointment will be made by the Interim Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews
shall be scheduled where appropriate.
