NOTICE OF POSITION

 
POSITION:               
The Interim Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Donald Ogilvie, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
 
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT SPECIALIST (SESIS)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Special Education, or related field and be NYS certified in Special Education, (speech and language or school psychology). Candidates must have completed a minimum of five years of approved and appropriate experience teaching students with disabilities.  Experience and formal training in Special Education is required.  Knowledge of research based instructional strategies, behavioral interventions and literacy for students with disabilities required.  Excellent oral and written communication skills a must.  Must have computer skills (email, power point, word processing, etc.).  Experience providing professional development or instructing adults highly preferred.
                                   
DUTIES:                    
The Special Education School Improvement Specialist (SESIS) will conduct training and provide technical assistance to identified schools and on topics identified in Quality Improvement Plans that pertain to literacy, behavior and specially designed instruction, in the education of students with disabilities and those at risk of being identified as a student with a disability, in the Buffalo Public Schools in accordance with the New York State Education Department Office of Special Education contract.
 
Other responsibilities include:
 

 
  • Conducting needs assessments, walk throughs and planning for allocation of RSE-TASC (Regional Special Education Technical Assistance Support Center) funds.
  • Developing Quality Improvement Plans with targeted schools.
  • Fulfilling reporting and program evaluation requirements.
  • Fulfilling personnel training requirements as requested by NYSED Office of Special Education
  • Participating in RSE-TASC network activities, including participating in the IIT process for Focus and Priority Schools and collaborating with NYSED Office of Special Education. 
  • Attending RSE-TASC and Office of School Improvement meetings in Albany and across the Western New York region. 
  • Collaborating with other State funded networks as part of the NYSED regional work plan.
  • Other tasks deemed necessary and appropriate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Duties may involve risk resulting from attending to students’ behavioral needs.

ADDITIONAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 
  • Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds;
  • Sufficiently mobile to ensure the safety of students;
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus;
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
  • Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry;
  • Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties may be conducted in work-related community settings and/or occasionally performed on study trips away from the school.
 
APPOINTMENT:      
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interview shall be scheduled where appropriate.                                           
 
SALARY:                   Teacher salary schedule based on BTF contract + $300
