NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION:                 
The Interim Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Donald A. Ogilvie, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:   
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree and New York State certification in education and have completed three years of approved and appropriate teaching and/or coaching experience, in addition to having successfully completed the Studying Skillful Teaching Course facilitated by Research for Better Teaching.  The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and demonstrate leadership and interpersonal communication skills with adults.  Candidates will also need to successfully complete an interview with Research for Better Teaching.
 
EXPERIENCE:           
In evaluating each candidate’s qualifications, consideration will be given to the candidate’s coursework and experiences in the areas of scientifically based research, assessment, and professional development in the area of instruction. Proficiency in the use of technology and knowledge of best instructional practices and the New York State common core curricula will also be considered in evaluating each candidate’s qualifications.
 
DUTIES:                     

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


 
  • Upon certification from Research for Better Teaching, deliver the Studying Skillful Teacher Course to Buffalo Public School teachers.
  • Completing district-selected professional development related to effective instruction and best practice.
  • Guiding and assisting teachers with implementing The Map of Pedagogical Knowledge.
  • Guiding and assisting teachers with planning lessons that are clear and accessible to all students.
  • Collaborating with teachers and priority school principals to support teachers through site visits, co-planning, modeling, e-mail, and site-based follow-up support meetings,
  • Providing support on collecting and analyzing data.
  • Strengthening teachers understanding and respect for our students’ diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Delivering summer and afterschool professional development (paid at the contractual rate).
 
APPOINTMENT:        
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews, a modeled lesson and a writing sample shall be scheduled. This appointment will be processed as “temporarily assigned” to the position. All temporary assignments end not later than June 30 and must be processed each year. The Studying Skillful Teaching Support Teacher will be assigned to the Staff Development department.
