                                                                    NOTICE OF POSITION
 
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for teaching position of:
 
                                                          Vocal Music Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree and NYS teacher certification in the area for which they are applying. In evaluating candidates’ qualifications, preference will be given to those who are highly proficient in other languages that are prevalent among ELLs within the district (e.g. Arabic, Burmese, Karen, Somali, Spanish, etc.).
                                                                            
EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must be fluent in multiple music styles including musical theatre, classical, contemporary pop, and improvisation, and be well versed in music history including a survey of western music and non – western influences. Candidates must also have a demonstrated record of experience in high rigor instruction and project – based and experiential learning. They must possess the skill set to develop strong collegial and collaborative relationships with individual and/or groups of teachers, in order to participate in cross – disciplinary common planning and create an active learning environment that facilitates student driven group instruction. Consideration will also be given to those who have experience with ELLs.
 
DUTIES: Under the direction of the school principal, teachers will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
  • Design a comprehensive program of study that meets each student at his/her appropriate entry level and stresses growth in areas including scales, arpeggios, dexterity exercises and repertoire.
  • Teach and train in vocal music in both choral and solo situations.
  • Adjust individual course of study according to perceived rate of progress, areas of remedial need, and expressed interest areas.
  • Teach Music Theory from beginner to AP levels.
  • Conduct vocal ensembles at multiple grade and ability levels and ability to provide instruction in proper musical techniques.
  • Evaluate and measure student growth via weekly lesson grade.
  • Develop and administer periodic formal playing assessments and semi-annual jury exams in the presence of at least one other music teacher/evaluator and semi-annual public group recitals.
  • Be to read and play piano music/scores including excellent sight-reading skills.
  • Participate in vertical and horizontal common planning.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the principal and/or other appropriate administrator.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following
assessment of training, experience, credentials, certifications and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews shall be
scheduled where appropriate.
