                      NOTICE OF POSITION

 
POSITION
The Superintendent of Schools, Pamela C. Brown, is interested in receiving applications from qualified
candidates for the position of:
 

                            Alternate Education Teachers

APPLICATION:
Candidates must complete an application form available on the district web site at
www.buffaloschools.org
 
QUALIFICATIONS:        
Candidates must hold Buffalo or New York State certification in Elementary Education, or one of the four
core subject areas Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts or Social Studies.  Candidates must have
thorough knowledge of scientific research.   Candidates must be currently employed by the Buffalo City
School District as a tenured teacher. Candidates must have knowledge of the Common Core Learning
Standards, Core Curriculum, Positive Behavior Instructional Strategies and knowledge of application of
research based pedagogical methods.  Candidates must demonstrate effective results working with
challenged youth. 
 
EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must complete professional development in the following areas: Common Core Learning
Standards (CCLS), Technology Integration, and Inquiry Based Instruction as well as participate in other
Professional Learning Opportunities as instructed by the Principal. In evaluating each candidate’s
qualifications, consideration will be given to the candidate’s coursework and experiences in the areas
of scientifically based mathematics and literacy research, assessment, and professional development
in the area of literacy and mathematics.  The candidate must possess excellent written and oral
communication skills, organizational skills, and demonstrate leadership and interpersonal communication
skills with adults.  Proficiency in the use of technology and knowledge of Common Core Learning
Standards for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics will also be considered in evaluating each
candidate’s qualifications.
 
DUTIES

Responsibilities include:

 
  • Collaborate with School Administration, Student Support Team, Guidance Counselors, faculty and parents to design and implement a successful in-school suspension model in accordance with the school’s improvement plan. 
  • Collaborate with School Administration, Student Support Team, Guidance Counselors, faculty and parents to design appropriate individualized instruction plans for student(s). 
  • Instruct students in lieu of suspension.
  • Instruct suspended students in content area coursework.
  • Provide School Administration, Student Support Team, Guidance Counselors, faculty and parents with student progress reports. 
  • Administer assessments to students. 
 
SELECTION:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent
following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews
shall be scheduled where appropriate.  This appointment will be processed as “temporarily assigned” to
the position.   All temporary assignments end not later than June 30 and must be processed each year.
