NOTICE OF POSITION

 

POSITION: The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, a permanent/professional teaching certification in the arts, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL) certificate by the time of appointment. It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of their certifications. Candidates must have effective interpersonal and communication skills, strong leadership and organizational development skills, and the ability to promote, execute and assess impact of strategic priorities and initiatives.

 

EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have completed five (5) years of approved and appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience, at least one (1) year of which must have been at an administrative level.


DUTIES: The Director will report to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction. The responsibilities of the Director will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee the work of the Department of the Arts, including teachers of art, dance, and theater;
  • Develop a strategic plan to enhance the arts in the Buffalo Public Schools;
  • Lead curriculum planning and textbook adoption;
  • Design or enhance academic programming for the arts at the high school level from creation of new courses to submission for approval;
  • Lead and design professional development opportunities;
  • Collaborate with other departments to incorporate the arts into the Early Childhood Enrichment Program (ECEP);
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of a middle and high school theatrical production initiative;
  • Support the development and implementation of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching initiatives as related to the arts;
  • Coordinate the PK-8 field trip program in BPS;
  • Evaluate staff as appropriate;
  • Serve as the district liaison to SED for Arts related issues;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to provide increased access to community programming.
  • Serve as the district’s point-person for external arts partnerships with schools;
  • Stay abreast of national and state trends in the arts to obtain information for essential program improvement;
  • Lead program monitoring and assess needs based on New York State regulations;
  • Oversee summer and afterschool programming for the arts;
  • Sponsor and enhance contests and exhibitions for the arts;
  • Solicit new funding sources;
  • Manage budgeting, purchasing, and contracts, ensuring fiscal responsibility;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
