NOTICE OF POSITION
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree, a permanent New York State teaching certificate in Special Education and a school administrator certificate (SDA) or New York State School District Leader (SDL).
Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years combined teaching and supervisory experience, with a minimum of one (1) year at the Supervisory level. Candidates with prior experience in an urban school district with a large racially and ethnically diverse population are preferred.
Candidates teaching experience must have been in Special Education, Speech, Pupil Personnel Services or Elementary or Secondary Education.
DUTIES:
The Director of Special Education will report to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning and Leadership Development and will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
- Coordinate and administer all areas of Special Education for the successful operation of the department, supervise and facilitate the development of leadership and technical skills of certified staff;
- Design, adapt and implement department procedures to ensure compliance and improve service to students with disabilities, assist district personnel regarding programmatic issues related to Special Education;
- Assist with the selection of Special Education Department staff;
- Supervise the work of staff to ensure that the process and procedures used in the Department are congruent with the district needs, expectations, and policies;
- Design, prepare and facilitate the departmental budget to ensure that the district’s resources are managed efficiently and appropriately to include the State and Federal grants;
- Lead efforts related to the Reduction of Suspensions and Disproportionality;
- Become active in community affairs to develop a close working relationship between the schools and the community at large;
- Assist in the planning and implementation of the district’s professional development program and model the personal and professional expectations held for district personnel by demonstrating a commitment to growth and renewal.
- Lead efforts related to the Secondary Transition of Students with disabilities and the implementation of programs supporting attainment of the CDOS Credential.
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.
SALARY: Administrator’s salary schedule.
