POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a permanent/professional New York State teaching certificate and have a valid New York State School District Administrator (SDA), School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS), School District Leader (SDL) or School Building Leader (SBL) certificate. It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of their certifications. Candidates with prior experience in sports, coaching, physical education and athletics are preferred. Candidates must have completed five years of approved and appropriate teaching/administrative experience.

Has a strong grasp of New York State Physical Education and Health standards.

  • Exhibit knowledge of the rules for each sport
  • Possess knowledge of New York State Public High School Athletic Association, Section VI and Buffalo Public Schools Policies and Procedures
     

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Superintendent of Physical Education, Health and Athletics reports directly to the Associate Superintendent of Strategic Alignment and Innovation.

Candidates will be responsible for:

  • Supervise and oversee the Director of Athletics
  • Supervise and oversee the Supervisor of Physical Education and Health
  • Supervise and oversee the Coordinator of Athletics (TOSA)
  • Leads the work of the Department of Athletics aligned to the following four goals:
    • Goal 1: Higher Student-Athlete Achievement and College Readiness
    • Goal 2: State of the Art Athletic & Wellness Facilities
    • Goal 3: Highly Competitive Athletics Program
    • Goal 4: Highly Effective Coaches
  • Leads the instructional work of Physical Education and Health
  • Ensures that teachers and coaches are evaluated and hired per BPS regulations
  • Evaluating, implementing and leading the school district extra-curricular Athletics program
  • Develop athletic program policies and maintain Buffalo Public School Athletics handbook
  • Prepare and manage a budget including staff salaries/stipends, team travel, equipment purchases and maintenance, facility upkeep, insurance, sponsorships and revenue generation
  • Manages all athletic service, supplier and vendor contracts, in coordination with appropriate School District departments, and manages athletic equipment inventories
  • Schedule and supervise athletic events
  • Hires, assigns and supervises coaching staff including performance management and annual performance evaluations and manages staff disciplinary issues
  • Supports coaches and principals with student-athlete discipline matters
  • Ensures maintenance of insurance policies in conjunction with appropriate School District departments
  • Leads School District participation in all local, regional, and state competitions
  • Develops and manages extra-curricular athletic activities/programs that run during the summer
  • Plans and executes Athletic award program and attends home and away games
  • Arranges for ticket sellers, concession, security and other parties for all home games
  • Advertises and arranges for local media coverage for all home games and partners with the Buffalo Public Schools’ Public Relations department
  • Develops and maintains a presence on the Buffalo Public School website
  • Ensures student-athletes meet New York State, BPS and Section VI eligibility requirements
  • Ensures all applicable student release/permission and/or required physicals are up to date
  • Supports student-athletes and parents in response to college/university scouting activities
  • Supervise and facilitate the development of leadership and technical skills of all certified staff in the Department of Physical Education and Health
  • Provide leadership for curriculum and instructional program planning, revisions to curriculum, development and implementation and evaluation of all aspects of the Physical Education and Health delivery programs to ensure congruency with the entire written, taught and tested curriculum.
  • Lead the development of Project ACES and similar programs and support the implementation and integration of Physical Education in elementary classrooms including tracking and evaluation.
  • Supervise the work of staff to ensure that the process and procedures used to identify, recruit, employ, develop, evaluate and retain personnel are congruent with district needs and expectations.
  • Ensure proper budgeting and that manage the district’s resources efficiently and appropriately.
  • Prepare department budgets to reflect the immediate and long-term goals of the physical education and health program.
  • Lead in the planning and implementation of the Physical Education, Health Education and district’s professional development program
  • Model the personal and professional expectations held for district physical education personnel by demonstrating a commitment to growth and renewal.
  • Performs related duties as required
