NOTICE OF POSITION

 

POSITION: The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
 

DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

(PROBATIONARY IN A TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT)

QUALIFICATIONS:   Candidates must have a Master’s degree, a permanent teaching certificate in Physical Education and Health and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA) or a School District Leader (SDL) certificate.  It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of  their certifications.

 

EXPERIENCE:       Candidates must have completed five years of approved and appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience, at least one year of which must have been at an administrative or supervisory level.

                                                                       

DUTIES:                     Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the Director of Athletics will:

·         Evaluate, implement and lead the school district extra-curricular Athletic programs;

·         Develop athletic program policies and maintain a Buffalo Public School Athletics handbook;

·         Prepare and manage a budget including coaching staff salaries/stipends, team travel, equipment purchases and maintenance, facility upkeep,   insurance, sponsorships and revenue generation;

·         Sources and manages all athletic service, supplier and vendor contracts, in coordination with appropriate School District departments;

·         Manages athletic equipment inventories;

·         Hires, assigns and supervises coaching staff including performance management and annual performance evaluations;

·         Manages staff disciplinary issues;

·         Supports coaches and principal in problems with student athlete discipline;

·         Provides input into contract negotiation regarding the Athletic coach positions and working conditions;

·         Ensures maintenance of insurance policies in conjunction with appropriate School District departments;

·         Schedules and oversees all varsity, junior varsity and intramural athletic events, including transportation arrangements;

·         Leads School district participation in all regional, state and national tournaments and competitions;

·         Develops and manages extra-curricular athletic activities/programs that run during the summer months;

·         Plans and executes Athletic award programs;

·         Attends home and away games;

·         Arranges for ticket sellers, concession, security and other parties for all home games;

·         Advertises and arranges for local media coverage for all home games and partners with the School District’s Community Relations Department;

·         Develops and maintains a presence on the Buffalo Public School web site;

·         Ensures student athletes meet New York State and Section VI eligibility requirements;

·         Ensures all applicable student release/permission and/or required physicals are up to date;

·         Supports student athletes and parents in response to college/university scouting activities;

·         Performs related duties as required.

 

APPOINTMENT:       Appointment will be made by the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
