DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Cultural Resource Specialist plans and presents information relative to the heritage, culture and life styles of various cultural groups to students attending public school system.  Incumbents to this position researches information and coordinate the presentation with classroom teachers supplementing material into existing curriculum.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Assists in the review and development of curriculum materials;
  • Presents information relative to traditions, cultures and lifestyles of various cultural groups;
  • Prepare and maintains lesson plans;
    • Demonstrates arts and crafts
    • Assists students in the construction of housing and community models;
    • Maintains records of each presentation or project
  • Identified students in need of supportive services; i.e. tutoring, remedial work, etc
    • Tutors students on academic subjects covered in classroom;
    • Maintains records of tutorial sessions;
  • Acts as a liaison between school and home/parents of students;
    • Advises parents if students are having difficulty at school, i.e. academic/disciplinary
  • Performs related duties as required.
