                                                                                NOTICE OF POSITION

 
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
 
                                                       LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT COORDINATOR (2)

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s Degree
  • Candidates must be employed as a probationary or tenured teacher in the Buffalo Public Schools and hold a valid New York State teaching certificate and have a bilingual extension or TESOL certification.
  • Candidates must be proficient and fluent in English and one of the top six languages (Spanish, Karen, Burmese, Arabic, Somali, or Nepali),
  • Candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and demonstrate leadership and interpersonal communication skills with adults.
  • Candidate must have extensive computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
  • Candidates must have received training on administering the New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners (NYSITELL) and must have prior experience administering the NYSITELL
  • Final selections will be based on successful interview.
  • Candidates must have completed three years of approved and appropriate teaching and/or coaching experience. In evaluating each candidate’s qualifications, consideration will be given to the candidate’s coursework, experiences in the area of assessment of ELL student, data management, and data analysis.
  • A strong knowledge of second language acquisition, research based instructional strategies for working with ELLs, cultural consideration, technology, and a fundamental understanding of the federal and state laws governing programs and services for ELLs, including CR Part 154, CR Part 117, and Title III regulations is required.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated leadership skills and experiences
DUTIES:
  • Responsible for the screening, identification and placement of ELLs as per CR Part 154
  • Conduct individual interview
  • Member of the Language Proficiency Team
  • Administer various assessment including but not limited to the NYSITELL, SIFE Oral Questionnaire, MLD, etc.
  • Provide high quality parent orientations
  • Translate documents
  • Organize and manage all information of students tested
  • Generate reports
  • Complete necessary data entry and maintenance
  • Daily data management and analysis
  • Conduct professional development trainings on CR Part 154, cultural awareness, etc.
  • LAC Coordinator acts a leader in the screening, identification, and placement of ELLs at CRC and has a central function in the organization of the LAC.
  • Maintains contact with the Supervisor of Multilingual Student Placement, Director of Central Registration, Multilingual department, school principals, ENL and Bilingual teachers, Registration Cultural Aides, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with CR Part 154
  • Ensures that CRC staff possess all relevant information, documentation, keeps up to date and informs all staff of recent changes, developments, and regulations.
  • Assists in setting up the systems and process to ensure compliance to CR PART 154 as it pertains to the screening, identification, and placement of ELLs
  • Maintains accurate records of all students
  • Oversees the implementation of all assessments
  • Assists staff with acculturation and intercultural understanding
  • Assists in examining ELL data and identifying areas of improvement
  • Assists and maintains a budget for LAC materials, ELL needs, etc.
  • Registers, participates in, and sets up training for staff
  • Works collaboratively with the all departments at CRC (Special Education, McKinney Vento, Registration, Health Related Services, etc.)
  • Coordinates partnerships and maintains communication with various partnerships and external agencies (resettlement agencies, cultural organizations, courts, etc.)
  • Assists the Supervisor of Multilingual Student Placement in implementing special initiatives that support ELLs
  • Able to identify and articulate the various instructional programs available in the district
  • Maintain LAC subpage of the CRC district website
  • Ensures effective communication with parents in the language and mode best understood by the parent/ guardian
  • Intensively monitors data to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the LAC
  • Reviews and analyzes student diagnostic data to assist in determining the appropriate school placement
  • Performs other such duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned or arise due to the nature of the position
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials, certifications, and a personal interview.
 
SALARY:                         Teacher daily rate based on BTF contract
