QUALIFICATIONS: Any person employed as a teacher assistant in the Buffalo Public Schools and be trained, or willing to be trained as a Second Set of Eyes for swimming.

  • Possess and maintain state and or federal certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Participate in professional learning opportunities as required
  • Skill in the care and supervision of students
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to speak and write effectively
  • Working knowledge of the school environment and the population it serves
  • Awareness and ability to work successfully within a diverse population


DUTIES: The role of the MBK/Our Story teacher assistant is to provide direct instructional supports to the students under the supervision of the CLRI Supervisor of Instructional Programs.

  • Work with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects*
  • Serve as additional support during swim instruction
  • Assist pupils in the use of available instructional resources, and assist in the development of appropriate learning experiences*
  • Utilize their own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in areas such as: arts, crafts, music, photography, videography, and similar projects*
  • Communicate effectively with the instructional team, including the classroom teacher, other professional staff, and parents
  • Work with parents to support the instructional programs
  • Attend fieldtrip excursions and actively chaperone students
  • Distribute Instructional Materials and Supplies
     

APPOINTMENT: Appointments are subject to the review of the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent

SALARY: Hourly Rate
