QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a valid NYS teaching certificate and be currently employed with the Buffalo Public Schools. Candidates must also hold a valid certification in one of the following areas: Physical Education, Physical Education with life guarding certification, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Social Work, Psychology or other NYS teacher certification.
Priority in the selection of teachers will be given to qualified permanent/ tenured/probationary/temporary Buffalo Public School teachers in order of summer school seniority. Please upload a copy of your NYS certification(s). Ensure your name and certification area(s) are visible. We will accept a screenshot from your NYS Teach account or you can upload using the physical document. Summer school seniority is defined as previous years of BPS summer employment in a classroom setting. Only current and active BPS employees earn summer school seniority.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of African American, Latinx, or Indigenous American history and culture, and the ability to provide professional development in these areas. Previous experience teaching the MBK and MSK curriculum preferred.
Candidates for Buffalo Public Schools Summer School are eligible to work for one of the summer programs only.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
My Brother’s Keeper and My Sister’s Keeper Curriculum Instructors shall report to the MBK/MSK Program Building Principal and the Supervisor of CLRI. The MBK Summer Academy will run for 10 full days from July 27, 2026, to August 7, 2026. Students participating in the summer program are from the following schools: #3, 19, 30, 31, 45, 53, 59, 80, 89, 92, 94, 95, 97, 156.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and deliver curriculum for My Brother’s Keeper and My Sister’s Keeper during the Summer
- Attend training related to anti-racist pedagogy and culturally and linguistically responsive classroom instruction
- Attend curriculum development sessions to ensure a rigorous, relevant culturally responsive curriculum
- Guide students through highly engaging inquiry-based learning experiences using hip-hop, music, lyrics, and culture, whereby they will be able to integrate their personal narratives within their respective historical and cultural contexts
- Integrate technology into the learning experience
- Collect qualitative data to measure program efficacy
- Manage instructional supplies and materials
- Chaperone students on local field experiences and facilitate field taxonomies that will expand student learning of topics.
- Comfortable talking to students about race and equity.
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials, and evaluation of service, including summer school seniority.
SALARY: Contractual daily Rate for Curriculum Development, and professional development.
