QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree, and a New York State School Building Leader (SBL/SAS), New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or New York State School District Leader (SDL) certifications, teaching, coaching and/or appropriate and approved supervisory experience. Candidates with prior experience in sports, coaching and athletic leadership are preferred. It is required that candidates must have three years of combined and approved teaching or administrative experience.
JOB SUMMARY:
Work under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Athletics to initiate and actively supervise all facets of our new BPS Modified Sports Programs. All operations and governance of programming will support the following four goals:
Goal 1: Higher Student-Athlete Achievement and College Readiness
Goal 2: State of the Art Athletic Equipment and Facilities
Goal 3: Highly Competitive Athletic Programs
Goal 4: Highly Effective Coaches
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Supervisor of Athletics reports directly to the Director of Athletics. Candidates will be responsible for assisting the Director of Athletics in:
- Lead, initiate, implement and evaluate, the school districts Modified Sports Program.
- Develop athletic program policies and maintain Buffalo Public School Athletics handbook.
- Prepare and manage a budget including staff salaries/stipends, team travel, equipment purchases and maintenance, facility upkeep, insurance, sponsorships and revenue generation.
- Manages all Modified sport service, supplier and vendor contracts, in coordination with appropriate School District departments, and manages athletic equipment inventories.
- Schedule and supervise Modified athletic events.
- Hires, assigns and supervises Modified coaching staff including performance management and annual performance evaluations and manages staff disciplinary issues.
- Collaborates with Elementary Athletic Liaisons or Principal’s designee to support the operations of the Modified sports programs.
- Supports Modified Coaches and Elementary Principals with student-athlete discipline matters.
- Ensures maintenance of insurance policies in conjunction with appropriate School District departments.
- Leads School District participation in all local tournaments and culminating events.
- Develops and manages Modified extra-curricular athletic activities/programs that run during the summer.
- Plans and executes a Modified sports award program and attends home and away games.
- Arranges game management staffing for all Modified home games.
- Advertises and arranges for local media coverage for all home Modified games and partners with the Buffalo Public Schools’ Public Relations department.
- Develops and maintains a presence on the Buffalo Public School Website.
- Ensures student-athletes meet New York State, BPS and Section VI eligibility requirements.
- Ensures all applicable student release/permission and/or required physicals are up to date.
- Supports student-athletes and parents in response to college/university scouting activities.
Perform additional duties as required and assigned by the Department
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service, program needs, and personal interview.
SALARY: Per Administrator salary schedule
