NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION:

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Pascal Mubenga, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

Director of Student Placement & Registration

The Director of Student Placement & Registration is responsible for providing overall leadership and coordination of advising, registration, and placement process for the Student Placement and Registration office.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have a Master’s degree, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL), or Administrator certificate by the time of appointment. Candidates must have a minimum of eight years combined certificated teaching and supervisory experience, with a minimum of three (3) years at the supervisory level. Candidates must have an understanding of all pertinent state and federal laws, guidelines, and regulations related to student registration and enrollment.

REPORTING:

The Director of Student Placement & Registration reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specifically, the Director of Student Placement & Registration will be responsible for the following:

  • Managing all functions of the Buffalo Public Schools student placement and registration processes.
  • Developing and executing a strategic plan which will ensure the timely and equitable placement of all students, which addresses the unique needs of students and families.
  • Creating a welcoming environment in the student placement and registration office and creating a system that will allow for the responding to telephone and email correspondence in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Implementing student-centered registration and placement workflow processes to ensure that families receive timely registration information and access. Specifically, implementing workflow improvement strategies within acceptable federal regulations to reduce the amount of time from the point of request for services to the delivery of such service.
  • Leading the transformation to an automated registration system through the use of existing and new technology strategies with the goal of facilitating a quick and accurate response to enrollment and registration requests and questions.
  • Maintaining an in-depth understanding of district and school programs and offerings.
  • Providing leadership to enhance and promote Buffalo Public Schools in partnership with schools, the Department of Guidance and Counseling, and Public Relations.
  • Managing issues of student enrollment and placement including, but not limited to enrollment projections, student transfers, school choice, elementary, middle and high school admissions, criterion based school selection and early childhood enrollment.
  • Serving as the primary contact for parents, principals, district and school personnel on enrollment related issues.
  • Working closely with schools and district departments to ensure the timely and appropriate placement of students.
  • Providing consistent reception, give accurate and up-to-date information, and respond to other communication demands regarding questions about registration, and placement during critical enrollment periods including the analysis of demographic data in relation to school growth and district operations.
  • Working closely with the Multilingual Department to ensure the proper advisement and placement of all New American students.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service, program needs, and personal interview.
