POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr.Tonja M.Williams, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

JOB SUMMARY
Facilitate individual and team strength and conditioning workouts designed to improve speed, muscle mass, coordination, power, flexibility and muscular strength and endurance with an emphasis on injury prevention. Strive to achieve every student-athletes’ personal goals and development, while incorporating safety protocols in the weight room. Candidates are also required to take daily attendance and track and report student data. Four day, five-week summer program running up to 3.5 hours per day from July 8th – August 8th, 2024. Times can vary per building.

CERTIFICATIONS:

In accordance with the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Section 135.4:

Potential candidates must meet the FIRST AIDE/CPR/AED requirement prior to starting to applying to this position.

A person who holds a valid certificate to teach physical education may coach any sport in any school, but first must meet the first aid/CPR requirement prior to coaching.

Other Certified Teachers and Non-Teacher Coaches must complete one of the two pathways within the specified time frame:

  1. New York State Coaching Certification program offered by Erie 1 BOCES or
  2. NFHS NYS Specific Second Pathway Process

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

One-year strength and conditioning experience preferred, preferably working with adolescence and young adults. Experience working with varied fitness levels and ages preferred. Coaching experience preferred. Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.

Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.

Candidates must be employed by the Board of Education in accordance with Article XII-G of the Master Contract between the Buffalo Board of Education and the Buffalo Teacher’s Federation.


SUPERVISOR:
Athletics Director and Building Principal or Principal Designee

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Adhere to the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics.

2. Track and record student attendance and all necessary data.

3. Models professional practices at all times.

4. Assume responsibility for the philosophy and teachings of the entire strength and conditioning program.

5. Collaborate with head coaches to develop conditioning programs.

6. Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for all male and female sports.

7. Design sport specific programs for weight training, conditioning, flexibility, and /or rehabilitation to meet the needs of student-athletes in their assigned sports.

8. Implement record testing programs to determine effectiveness of development.

9. Works with student-athletes to proactively prevent injuries and assist with injury rehabilitation.

10. Strength coach will develop pre and post testing for power movements. Ex. Bench Press/Squat

11. Ensures proper supervision in the weight room, including instruction in lifting technique of training with free weights and Olympic Lifts, as well as safety and spotting procedures.

12. Create daily standard operating procedures.

13. Ensures proper maintenance, repair, and cleaning of equipment.

14. Attend meetings called by the Athletic Director or Building Principal.

15. Adhere to all BPS policies and procedures outlined in the NYS Commissioners regulations, NYSPHSAA and Section VI.

 

OTHER DUTIES:
1. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the, Athletic Director & Principal or other appropriate administrator.
