POSITION:

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

SUPERVISOR OF GUIDANCE & COUNSELING SERVICES

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have a current NYS certifications in Educational Counseling and New York State School District Administrator (SDA), New York State School Supervisor (SAS), School District Leader (SDL), or School Building Leader (SBL) Certificate, minimum of 3-5 years employment as a school counselor, and preference shall be given to candidates with experience in an urban school district. Candidates with experience in school counseling are highly encouraged to apply

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Supervisor of Guidance & Counseling Services reports to the Director of Guidance and Counseling Services and will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Understand NYSED Diploma and Graduation Requirements and providing in services as revisions are made
  • Supervising and evaluating Counselors
  • Facilitate with the recruitment of hiring highly qualified counselors
  • Ensure that all students and families in grades 6, 7 & 8 are informed about BPS High School Programs and make applications to such programs
  • Lead the implementation of counselors adhering the NYSED mandate of completing annual student record reviews
  • Annually update and inform staff on the District’s Comprehensive School Counseling Plan
  • Providing leadership and support to School Counselors at elementary, middle school and high school grade levels
  • Planning and implementing developmental Professional Learning Opportunities (PLO’s) for counselors at all grade levels
  • Knowledge of the American School Counselor Association Standards
  • Detailed knowledge of the NYS Core Curriculum as well as promotion and graduation requirements
  • Knowledge of decoding secondary transcripts and elementary cumulative record cards
  • Familiarity of decoding out-of-district transcripts (from schools within the City of Buffalo, the State of New York, across the United States and other countries)
  • Coordination of several district partnerships
  • Understand programmatic regulations of federal grants within the department
  • Assist parents and students with strategies to support the academic success of students
  • In-depth knowledge of SEL, Restorative Justice, Trauma Informed Care and PBIS Systems
  • Ensuring that all aspects of district wide PSAT and SAT testing is adhered to
  • Assist parents upon request with strategies to support the academic success of their children
  • Coordinate Jesse Ketchum with counselors and board members
  • Other duties deemed necessary by the Director of Guidance and Counseling for the successful operation of the department

 

APPOINTMENT:

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service, program needs, and personal interview.

SALARY: Per Administrator salary schedule
