NOTICE OF POSITION

OVERVIEW:

Under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash, the Buffalo Public Schools has entered into the Education Bargain with Students and Parents.

Currently, the Buffalo Public Schools is accepting applications from a diverse group of dedicated and engaged individuals for consideration of a leadership role in the Office of Parent and Family Engagement.  The position of Supervisor will service the District’s 59 schools and Central Office to serve the academic, emotional, and physical needs of the approximately 34,000 students and families through the essential elements of the Education Bargain as designated below.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree and an administrator’s certificate.  Candidates must hold a valid New York State School Administrators Supervisor (SAS), New York State District Administrator (SDA), or New York State School District Leader (SDL) certificate.  Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of approved and appropriate teaching and Supervisory experience, with a minimum of one (1) year in an administrative or supervisory capacity.  Candidates must have demonstrated expertise in Federal and State guidelines as it pertains to Title I, Part A – Parent Involvement.

DUTIES:                  

Under the leadership of the Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services and direct supervision of the Office of Parent and Family Engagement’s Instructional Specialist III, the Office of Parent and Family Engagement Supervisor will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Serve as a liaison between school district, parents, families, and community
  • Support building administrators and school staff in establishing and implementing effective parent and family programs
  • Provide support to school staff, parents, families and community in developing  necessary skills to effectively partner on behalf of students
  • Identify and coordinate district-wide parent and family activities and events throughout the year
  • Assist parents, families, and school staff with implementing local, state, and federal program policies and procedures related to parent engagement
  • Prepare parent engagement reports, as requested
  • Participate in evening and weekend meetings and events, as needed
  • Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing information
  • Supervise OPFE staff (i.e. Community Education Leader and Community Resource Leader)
  • Maintain currency of information related to effective parent and family programming via professional organization membership; reading literature of the field, conferring with counterparts in other school districts, attending meetings and conferences, etc.
  • Comply with all aspects of the BPS Parent and Family Engagement Policy 3170 and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Section 1116
  • Respond to parent inquires related to their child’s education.
  • Attend local, regional and national educational conferences to enhance knowledge-base and skill-set
  • Perform other duties as assigned
APPOINTMENT:    

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
