POSITION
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Tonja M.Williams, is interested in receiving applications for qualified candidates for the position of: 

 

SUMMER SCHOOL 2024 (HOURLY)
GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
STUDENT PLACEMENT AND REGISTRATION

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have at least one year of secondary level experience, possess a Master’s Degree in Counseling Education and hold a current NYS Certificate in Counseling Education. Candidates should be knowledgeable in theoretical and evidence-based methodologies that focus on Comprehensive School Counselor philosophies.


DUTIES:  
Under the direction of the Director and Supervisor of Student Placement & Registration, the responsibilities of the Guidance Counselor will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct credit reviews and create educational profiles using transcripts, report cards, behavioral records, etc. for US and Non-native on new and returning students to BPS 
  • Conference with students and families to recommend educational options (i.e., general education, special education, Career Technical Education programs, International Baccalaureate, Gifted and Talented Programs, High School Equivalency at Career Collegiate Institute, agency placements, Pathways, etc.) based on the student’s academic records and needs
  • Collaborate with the Department of Guidance, CTE, Special Education, Multilingual and school staff regarding school programs and/or school assignments 
  • Maintain accurate and up to date data collection regarding school assignments and registration
  • Maintain all files, records, reports and documents in a safe and efficient manner
  • Other duties as assigned

APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate
