                                NOTICE OF POSITION

 
POSITION:               
The Interim Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Donald A. Ogilvie, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS:  
The teacher on special assignment will create, organize, and manage a tracking system for students who, rather than be suspended out of school, may be given from 1 period to up to no more than 5 days of assignment to the Academic Center for violations of the Buffalo Public Schools Revised Code of Conduct or other issues resulting from a student’s particular set of circumstances. The Academic Center is a support for students who are struggling with one or several issues with interventions in place to return students to regular classroom programming as quickly as possible. In addition, the TOSA will also maintain daily communication with Parents, Administrators, Counselors, Social Workers, the Attendance Teacher, Special Education, and Classroom Teachers as dictated by each individual student’s situation and his/her need for services and supports.
 
                                                                       
RESPONSIBILITIES:           
The Support teacher will create, organize, and manage a tracking system for students who, rather than be suspended out of school and will work under the supervision of the Principal/Assistant Principal.  The Principal, as the responsible head and educational leader of the school will assure compliance with state education law and Commissioner’s Regulations.
 
The assignment includes:
 

 
  • Daily communication with Parents, Administrators and other school personnel as needed.
  • Academic instruction and homework help/counseling.
  • Provide a safe academically-focused environment.
 
 
APPOINTMENT:      
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service and interview by the building principal. This appointment will be processed as “temporarily assigned” to the position. All temporary assignments end not later than June 30 and must be processed each year.
