POSITION:               
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash., is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have a Master’s degree, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL) certificate by the time of appointment.  Candidates must have a minimum of eight (8) years at the supervisory/administrative level in addition to familiarity with student support models. Candidates with prior administrative experience in an urban school district witha large racially and economically diverse population are preferred.
                                                                       
 
POSITION:
 
The Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services will be responsible for championing academic and non-academic supports for all students at Buffalo Public Schools, ensuring that all children receive the guidance and help needed to graduate from high school prepared for college or a high-paying career. The position also supervises the district’s student placement program, which seeks to promote choices for students and families, and will take primary responsibility for increasing the district’s attendance rate and decreasing suspension rates. With a collaborative, entrepreneurial style, the Associate Superintendent of Student Services will provide leadership and oversight to ensure that the district’s services and programs—along with community resources—are leveraged effectively to complement the core instruction delivered by schools.


REPORTING:
 
The Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services will report to the Superintendent or his designee, and will manage a team of professionals in the areas of youth services (summer and out of school), 504 services, attendance, social and emotional health, social work, homelessness, guidance counseling, family and community relations, and student placement.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Specifically, the Associate Superintendent of Student Supports will be responsible for the following:


Student Excellence
  • Provide leadership in the development and review of policies, systems, and procedures to provide effective and coordinated delivery of support services to all students.
  • Ensure the design, development and growth of a standards-based and performance-driven Office to include collection, analysis and monitoring of multiple databases as they pertain to the efficient placement of students, promotion of student attendance, reduction of student suspensions and delivery of student services.
  • Strategically and periodically evaluate district services and programs for students; identify opportunities for greater effectiveness, efficiency and cost savings.
  • Systematize and streamline student placement and attendance procedures, including through technology integration.
  • Lead and manage the administration and coordination of all efforts to track and promote student attendance.
  • Lead and manage the implementation of the district’s student placement policy.
  • Oversee the administration of all functions and matters associated with school and district services for students, including collaboration with city departments, community agencies, and business partners to develop intervention and preventive strategies for students. 
Strategic Use of Resources
  • Lead district planning for and advisement to the board related to student placement.
  • Engage school leaders and instructional experts to maximize student attendance, minimize student suspensions and ensure effective and efficient delivery of academic and non-academic support services.
  • Collaborate with community members and leaders and district and school leaders to promote student success.

Customer Service
  • Work collaboratively with other divisions within the central office to create streamlined service to school administrators.
  • Promote transparency and codify processes within the Office of Student Support Services.
  • Build a strong customer service culture within the Office of Student Support Services.
  • Create and implement policies and systems that authentically engage parents and the community.

  • Exceptional project management skills and an ability to balance big picture priorities with details
  
APPOINTMENT:      
Appointment will be made by the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service.  Personal interviews
shall be scheduled where appropriate.
 
SALARY:                  By contractual agreement.
