POSITION: The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree, a permanent New York State teaching certificate, and a School Administrator Certificate (SDA), New York State School District Leader (SDL) or New York State School Building Leader (SBL). It is highly preferable that the candidate have coursework related to instructional technology. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and demonstrate leadership and interpersonal communication skills with all district stakeholders. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong collaborative, team-oriented, and flexible approach to partnered work as well as a deep understanding of the coaching role in an educational setting.

 

EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have completed five years of approved and appropriate teaching in a school district similar to the Buffalo Public Schools, including the implementation of instructional technology. Prior experience in an administrative or organizational capacity in educational technology is preferred. In evaluating each candidate’s qualifications, consideration will be given to the candidate’s coursework and experiences in instructional technology, curriculum design, digital environments and creation of content for online learning. Knowledge of the New York State Common Core Standards and curricula, assessments, data driven instruction, Special Education, English Language Learners (ELL), ISTE Standards, and 21st Century Skills will also be considered in evaluating each candidate’s qualifications.

The candidate should also possess:

 

  • Knowledge of current educational technology initiatives including 1:1 computing, flipped classrooms, digital citizenship, digital literacy, and coding
  • Thorough knowledge of various technology integration frameworks including SAMR and TPACK
  • Facility in the use of BPS Instructional Technology resources including software, hardware, web resources, and peripheral devices
  • Understanding of the appropriate uses of learning management systems and social media in K-12 education
  • Deep understanding of ways instructional technology can support information literacy skills and student learning, especially in relation to the Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS)
  • Thorough knowledge of BPS curriculum and instructional models
  • Knowledge and facility in the use of multiple pedagogical techniques for addressing the needs of various learners including Special Education Students and ELLs
  • Commitment to following and enforcing BPS, Federal and State policies, procedures and regulations as they relate to Instructional Technology
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of multiple staff development models and approaches
  • Experience in planning, leading and facilitating staff development opportunities with a variety of stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of DTSDE, NYSUT Rubric and the APPR Process and how the use of technology factors into each

 

DUTIES: Under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer and the Director of Instructional Technology, essential duties and responsibilities of the Supervisor of Instructional Technology include but are not limited to:

  • Providing supervision over short and long-range projects for BPS instructional technology initiatives.
  • ​​​​​​​Supporting the implementation of instructional technology including but not limited to: instructional software and hardware, course specific software, library systems software, website, social media and other digital communication tools, as well as other future hardware, software, and web tools adopted based on identified needs.
  • Staffing, supervision, and evaluation of BPS Instructional Technology Coaches
  • Working with Instructional Technology Coaches to plan, develop and implement program activities to support the ISTE Technology Standards, NYSED K-12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards, Common Core Learning Standards, BPS academic plans and other initiatives as necessary.
  • Assisting in the identification, evaluation and implementation of technology applications for curricular use and arrange for both initial and ongoing staff development opportunities through Instructional Technology Coaches.
  • Working in coordination with BPS Information Technology staff to ensure that instructional technology resources are compatible and function well with current district systems
  • Protecting student safety through the stewardship of student data and proactive implementation of BPS Digital Citizenship curriculum.
  • Promoting and supporting equity and access to Culturally and Linguistically Responsive materials for all students, especially through access to digital resources
  • Actively seeking and managing grants for technology funding.
  • Analyzing and reporting on instructional technology related programs in regards to overall effectiveness.
  • Supporting all BPS district goals and initiatives.
  • Coordinating with all District departments and committees (i.e. Office of Instruction, Staff Development, Office of Shared Accountability) and others as assigned.
  • Attending meetings and conferences and participating in other activities to promote professional growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

APPOINTMENT: Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where necessary and/or appropriate.
