POSITION:          The Superintendent of Schools, Pamela A. Brown, Ed.D, is interested in receiving
applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
                                               
Art Education Teacher (K-2) – Bilingual Center #33                                        

APPLICATION:        Candidates who wish to apply should complete an online application on the
district website at www.buffaloschools.org.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:         Candidates must have New York State certification in Art Education.
Candidates must be able to work in tandem with current art and music teacher, following
requirements of Bilingual Center #33’s School Improvement Grant. Prior experience working alongside
Artists-in-Residence/Visiting Artists, integrating artists’ work through the implementation of
standards-based lesson plans, is preferred. At least 2 years of elementary experience, of which at
least 1 year includes successful integration of Artists-in-Residence/Visiting Artists in the candidate’s
art curriculum. Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia instructional model is desirable.
                                               
DUTIES:      Bilingual Center #33 is implementing a program designed to meet its students’
needs inspired by the Reggio Emilia model of teaching that highlights the following: the role of
collaboration among children, teachers and parents; the co-construction of knowledge; the
interdependence of individual and social learning; and using the role of culture in understanding
this interdependence. (Baji Rankin 2004). At the heart of this system is always the child. In
this program, children develop the understanding that they are capable of building their own
theories. To this end, candidates will be expected to support and guide children as active
participants in the organization of their own identities, abilities, and autonomy, as facilitated
through relationships and interactions with peers, adults, ideas, objects, and vents, highlighting
how all these facets intercommunicate. To achieve this, the candidate must: 
 

• implement NYS Visual Arts standards-based lesson plans that are aligned to Common Core Learning Standards
• work collaboratively with all teachers and staff in the development of units and lesson plans that support the program’s philosophy
• facilitate K-2 art  education classes using small and large group instructional strategies and best practices
• work collaboratively with parents, community members, and educational stakeholders in the development of exhibitions and other arts-centered school events

 
Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed museum studies
coursework  or have experience in museum curatorship.  Experience collaborating with an
Artist in Resident or artists in residence programs. 
 
APPOINTMENT:    Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation
of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of
service.  Personal Interviews shall be scheduled there appropriate.
                                               
SALARY:         Per the BTF Contract.
