POSITION:

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for teaching position of:

 

Bilingual School Counselor (Spanish)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree and NYS teacher certification in school counseling. It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of their certifications. In evaluating candidates’ qualifications, preference will be given to those who also possess high proficiency in languages that are prevalent among ELLs within the district (e.g. Arabic, Burmese, Karen, Somali, Spanish, etc.). Candidate must also demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken Spanish.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must have experience in guiding and counseling linguistically and culturally diverse students and a thorough understanding of college admissions, data analysis, and researching scholarships. They must possess the skill set to develop strong collegial and collaborative relationships with individual and/or groups of teachers, in order to support the needs of ELLs. Consideration will be given to those who have a demonstrated record of strong connections to the various immigrant and refugee communities.

 

DUTIES: Under the direction of the school principal, teachers will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Assist students in the development of an academic program which meets their interests and linguistic ability with special emphasis on post–secondary education.

  • Provide information regarding standardized assessments to students, parents, and teachers.

  • Assist students and their parents in understanding test results and records.

  • Research, identify, and provide a variety of resources that are appropriate for ELLs on career development and job readiness.

  • Provide guidance to students and their families in navigating the high school ahead process.

  • Provide guidance to students in preparing for college and/or career.

  • Collaborate with teachers to create and maintain a positive school environment.

  • Collaborate with the Student Support Team (SST) to provide wraparound services as needed.

  • Complete, maintain, and update student records as necessary.

  • Create, maintain, and update reports on students’ academic progress and any pertinent data related to graduation targets.

  • Maintain an open line of communication with parents and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

  • Participate in school, department, and district meetings and professional development activities as required.

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students to address and manage problems that interfere with school performance.

  • Support teachers and administrators in better meeting the social, emotional, and academic needs of bilingual students and their families.

  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the principal and/or other appropriate administrator.

 

 

APPOINTMENT:

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials, certifications and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
