NOTICE OF POSITION
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Pamela C. Brown, is interested in receiving applications from
qualified candidates for the position of:
Student Transition and Academic Recovery
(S.T.A.R.) AcademyFull-time Teachers
at Grover Cleveland School
The Student Transition and Academic Recovery (S.T.A.R.) Academy is a program designed
to provide high school students who are over-age (e.g., 16- to 19 years old) and under-credited
(e.g., less than 5 credits) with courses to assist them in getting on track towards graduation.
The program will also support high school English Language Learner students who are new to the
country with limited or no formal education.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have earned a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree and have a New York State
teaching certificate in a secondary core content area (Math, Science, English, Social Studies),
secondary special education, Guidance Counselor or English as a Second Language. The
candidate must have demonstrated experiences of effective supports with academically challenged
students. Candidates must possess a recognized interest in developing authentic and meaningful
professional relationships with youth who struggle academically. Candidates must have adequate
knowledge of the BPS Curriculum.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Transition and Academic Recovery (S.T.A.R.) Academy teachers will work under the
supervision of the Principal. The Principal, as the responsible head and educational leader of the
school, will assure compliance with state education law and Commissioner’s Regulations.
The guidance counselor will work at the S.T.A.R. Academy and the placement office (School #12)
to identify and transition students who are new to the District. The program will be a full day
program at the Grover Cleveland School site.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the
Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service,
program needs and interview.
SALARY: Per teacher salary schedule
