POSITION:      Senior Stock Clerk – Provisional

SALARY:         $34,099 - $37,850

LOCATION:    Service Center, Supply Department 105 Bailey Ave NY 14220

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  Employees in this class supervise and perform clerical and manual activities in receiving, storing and distributing tools, equipment, materials and supplies in a stockroom or warehouse.  Incumbents perform many of the activities and tasks of a Stock Clerk with the addition of supervising responsibility over subordinates, the responsibility of maintenance of records and inventories and the reordering of certain items.  Work is performed in accordance with established policies, regulations and procedures that are clearly defined.  Stockroom activities require care, accuracy and timeliness in their performance to ensure the efficient operation of the programs.  Incumbents supervise one or more subordinates by assigning work, giving instructions, providing assistance and observing and reviewing work performed.  Supervision is received by an administrator or higher clerical employee having the responsibilities beyond those of a stockroom operation.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Receives, checks, stores and issues a variety of tools, equipment, materials and supplies;
    • identifies items received and checks them against both the invoices and requisition orders;
    • contacts vendors on receipt of damaged goods and arrange for appropriate replacement and/or the adjustment of accounts;
    • inspects storage areas to insure items are stored properly, storage areas are clean and secure from possible theft;
    • may reorder supplies from vendors when inventory is below the minimum accepted level;
    • processes purchase orders;
  • Supervises the taking of periodic physical inventories;
    • maintains inventory records design to account for an control stock items;
    • maintains stock control card file;
    • completes appropriate inventory forms and prepares factual reports explaining reasons for discrepancies between count of items and inventory control records;
    • investigates complaints received regarding the quantity or quality of goods issued;
  • May assist in compiling budget information;
  • Performs related work as required.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Good knowledge of the methods and practices used in receiving, storing and issuing of materials, equipment, tools and supplies;
  • Working knowledge of warehousing and stockroom operations including the security, safe and efficient use of space and facilities;
  • Working knowledge of inventory procedures;
  • Ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports of work of others;
  • Ability to bend, lift and climb and to stand and walk for long periods of time;
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy manual work;
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Promotional:      

       Continuous and permanent status as a Stock Clerk for one year.

        (A)    Associate's Degree from an accredited junior college or business institute

                                                            OR

        (B)     Graduation from high school or its equivalent  and one year of full-time experience in the ordering, storage, or distribution of materials and supplies including the maintenance of stockroom records;


                                                            OR

        (C)     an equivalent combination of the foregoing as defined within the limits of (A) and (B).

 

 

  NOTE:      Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
