POSITION:     Junior Auditor - Temporary
SALARY:        $35,189 - $40,593
LOCATION:     Payroll Department, 814 City Hall, Buffalo, NY 14202

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is an entry level auditing position where incumbents review financial records and apply professional auditing techniques to assignments of somewhat limited responsibility.  Work, in general, is of a routine nature but as experience is gained on assignments and unit activities, additional and more complex duties are added.  Direct supervision is received and work is reviewed upon completion.  Supervision may be exercised over clerical personnel.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Examines accounts to determine validity and legality of entries;
Reconciles source documents to books of original entry;
Reconciles bank statements;
Checks invoices, receipts, disbursements, inventories, purchasing and payroll records;
Verifies unpaid taxes or assessment books;
Verifies expenditures covering tax sale redemptions, duplicate payments, IN REM adjustments and trust fund expenditures;
Reconciles outstanding encumbrances at the end of the fiscal year;
Operates personal computer for use of both word processing and financial spreadsheet software;
Performs related duties as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Working knowledge of the principles of accounting and auditing; working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; Ability to understand and interpret written material; ability to follow oral and written instructions; Ability to get along well with others;

Ability to be trained in the operation of personal computer, data terminals, printers and CRT terminals; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors or Associates Degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by 15 credit hours in Accounting/Auditing (must present transcript at time of filing application).
