NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
 
         STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES COORDINATOR
(MENTORING AND COUNSELING SERVICES)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have at least three years of Pupil Personnel Services experience, possess a Master’s Degree in Counseling Education and hold a current NYS Certificate in Counseling Education. Candidates
should be knowledgeable in theoretical and evidence based methodologies that focus on Comprehensive School Counselor philosophies. A thorough understanding of the impact of trauma and poverty on
student success is necessary. Preference will be given to applicants with current City of Buffalo residency.

 

DUTIES:

The Student Support Services Coordinator will lead the development, monitoring and implementation of mentoring programming and activities throughout the Buffalo Public Schools.
Establish community partnerships to strengthen the Buffalo Public School Mentoring activities
and programing. Responsible for serving as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team
and meeting the needs of students, parents, and schools working through crisis.

 

Expectations of the Mentoring and Counseling Services Coordinator include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Take the lead on all aspects of the mentoring program, to include recruiting,

  • orientation, screening, training, matching and monitoring volunteers

  • Collaborate with building administrators to identify and maintain a safe and respectful environment for participants

  • Monitor mentors on a weekly basis, provide feedback and suggestions, and assist with any challenges

  • Enhance community awareness of the program by participating in networking and community based activities

  • Develop partnerships with other community groups and organizations and remain

    Active in the educating and advocating in the area of student support services

  • Maintain accurate and up to date school data

 

Promote A School Attendance Culture;

  • Assist in the development and coordination of attendance improvement activities that support the development of a school attendance culture;

  • Support the school-based and district-wide attendance improvement and incentive campaigns;

  • Establish a good rapport with students, faculty, staff, parents and community partners;

    • Assist in the development of short and long-range goals and timelines for ancillary instructional and student support projects.

  • Make in-district and community presentations regarding attendance improvement;

  • Establish and maintain community partnerships that support a good school attendance culture; and

  • Meet with parents, teachers, faculty and staff to share information about PreK-12 attendance improvement strategies.

  • Crisis Intervention Supports;

  • Serve as a member of the Crisis Intervention team by assisting in the delivery of crisis prevention and intervention supports for students; and

  • Serve as a member of the Crisis Intervention team in the development of resources (print media, digital and web-based) that support healthy recovery from trauma.

Parental Engagement

  • Engage parents in understanding the importance of school attendance and high school completion in schools and through the district’s Parent Centers; and

  • Visit PTA and other parent group meetings to present, answer questions about school attendance and improvement strategies.

Administrative Duties

  • Prepare monthly status reports to be presented to district staff;

  • Attend community events to share information;

    • Work with community based organizations to strengthen the BPS Attendance improvement strategies;

  • Maintain all files, records, reports and documents in a safe and efficient manner;

  • Work with district webmaster to publicize announcements and events through the district website; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service.
