NOTICE OF POSITION
POSITION:
The Interim Superintendent of Schools, Will Keresztes, Ed.D., is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
SCIENCE COORDINATOR - ELEMENTARY

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold Buffalo or New York State certification in Science 7-12 or Elementary Education grades 1-6. It is required that candidates attach a PDF or a screenshot of their certifications. Candidates possessing ONLY NYS Elementary Education must have a minimum of 18 hours of credited science courses. Candidates must have thorough knowledge of scientific research and have the capability to provide adult professional development. The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience. Candidates must complete professional development related to the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS), the Next Generation standards for English Language Arts / Literacy and Mathematics, Pearson’s Elevate Science program, Science and Technology Integration, and Inquiry Based Instruction as well as participate in other Professional Learning Opportunities as instructed by the Director of Science Education. In evaluating each candidate’s qualifications, consideration will be given to the candidate’s coursework and experiences in the area of scientifically based science and literacy research, assessment, and professional development in the area of science and scientific literacy. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and demonstrate leadership and interpersonal communication skills with adults. Proficiency in the use of technology and knowledge of NY State Standards will also be considered in evaluating each candidate’s qualifications.
DUTIES:
Responsibilities include:
- Planning and collaborating with Buffalo Museum Staff, Buffalo Zoo Staff and First Hand Learning.
- Guiding and assisting teachers in the full and ongoing implementation of Science programs;
- Guiding and assisting teachers in the implementation of the Common Core Learning Standards
- Guiding and assisting teachers in the implementation of valid and reliable assessment tools and planning related professional development
- Guiding and assisting teachers in the implementation of Pearson’s Elevate Science program
- Collaborating with teachers in the implementation of instructional strategies that are standards-based;
- Intensively monitoring science programs, strategies and materials for students who are performing below grade level
- Reviewing and analyzing student diagnostic screening, and progress data, as well as outcome assessment data, to assist in determining appropriate student interventions and necessary program modifications
- Planning and facilitating grade level meetings
- Collaborating with building administrator and building reading coach.

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interview shall be scheduled where appropriate.
