POSITION:      Stock Clerk – Provisional
 
SALARY:         $40,494 - $44,431
 
LOCATION:     Service Center, 105 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14220

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is responsible clerical work including moderately difficult manual work in the operation of a stock room/warehouse.  Incumbents may be in charge of a relatively small stockroom/may work under supervision in the operation of a larger stockroom.  He/she receives, stores and issues tools, equipment and supplies and work is performed according to prescribed standards and procedures.  Incumbents may be responsible for the safe keeping of materials and supplies and supervision may be exercised over employees assigned to this area.
 
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Receives and issues equipment, tools, supplies and materials:
- receives and checks incoming and outgoing orders against items as listed on requisitions/purchase orders/invoice counting, grading or weighing the articles;
- enters verification into computer;
- signs receipts for shipment;
- marks, labels or numbers supplies/materials;
- stores supplies/materials on shelves and bins or on the floor in a convenient position for removal when needed;
- selects and packages items according to requisitions or computer printouts;
- posts information concerning the quantity and type of stock received or issued on appropriate forms;
Requisitions for supplies, materials or tools as needed;
Takes periodic inventory by counting the amount and kind of merchandise, materials or stock on hand and comparing results with appropriate controls and records;
Maintains inventory records of the quantity and kinds of stock on hand;
May make minor adjustment/repairs to articles carried in stock;
Maintains stockroom area to insure cleanliness and safety;
Keeps stock in proper place and neatly arranged;
May be required to operate a motor vehicle to pick up and deliver supplies and invoices;
Unloads and loads material utilizing appropriate materials handling equipment as required;
Maintains various records and prepares necessary reports;
Checks outgoing orders for accuracy of count, item description, packaging and marking;
Performs related work as required.
 
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Working knowledge of methods and practices used in receiving, storing, maintaining and issuing supplies and equipment;
Working knowledge of inventory procedures;
Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions;
Ability to keep records and make reports;
Ability to be trained in the operation of data processing equipment, computer terminal equipment and related equipment used in the input/output of data;
Ability to read and use a variety of supply catalogs and manuals;
Ability to make arithmetical computations;
Ability to bend, lift and climb and to stand and walk for periods of time;
Ability to perform moderately heavy manual work; Clerical aptitude;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from High School, GED or Equivalency Diploma and one year of full-time clerical or stockroom experience.
 
NOTE:  Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated to meet full-time experience requirements.
 
Special Requirement:  Possession of a current NYS Driver’s License that must be presented at time of appointment and maintained during employment.
 
 
 APPOINTMENT:    Appointments are subject to the approval of the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent. Personal interviews may be scheduled.
