POSITION: Textbook Inventory Specialist - Provisional
SALARY: $56,170 - $66,268

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This position, located within the Buffalo Public School District, is responsible for the physical inventory and distribution of textbooks and other instructional materials. Duties involve the organizing and managing of instructional resources for academic programs. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Textbook Coordinator in addition to receiving guidance from the Director of Libraries and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction.
Typical Work Activities
- Receives and signs for materials on textbook purchase orders delivered to the District
- Checks textbook purchase orders and packing slips for ISBN, description and quantity; identifies errors and reports appropriate details to the Textbook Coordinator
- Ensures textbooks and materials are stored properly so that items may be retrieved quickly and efficiently
- Fills textbook orders for the schools, package and prepare textbooks for delivery; monitor and fill backorders
- Loads and unloads trucks with textbook materials; drives District trucks to transport textbooks as necessary
- Operates a computer and assigned software, warehouse equipment and tools, and other standard office equipment
- Travels to various District locations to recover unused/ surplus textbooks; Assists with packing of surplus and organizing textbook storage rooms within the various school buildings
- Maintains complete inventory of textbooks and preforms annual audit of materials
- Participates in inventory searches to recover misplaced textbooks and inputs corrections to the inventory control database
- Maintain a safe, neat and orderly workspace, including the areas between book storage and open work areas
- Communicates with the Textbook coordinator of any potential problems or unusual events and responds to inquires or concerns in a timely manner
- Performs other duties as related to this job classification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES and PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Requires the ability to display knowledge of asset management procedures and textbook procurement procedures
- Requires the ability to deal with a high level of activity, involving multi-tasking and appropriate handling of competing priorities
- Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions and effectively communicate with supervisor
- Requires the ability to use technology to input, edit, and format data and information
- Requires knowledge of the proper use and understanding of purchase orders, invoices, and packing slips
- Requires knowledge of proper lifting techniques with the ability to lift/move heavy boxes up to forty (40) pounds.
- Represents, consistently, the District in a positive and professional manner
Minimum Qualifications
Open Non Competitive
- Graduation from a Federal/State university or college with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree earned. In addition to two (2) years of work experience involving the daily operations of procuring, organizing, and managing instructional resources for academic programs.
Or
- Graduation from High School, GED or Equivalency Diploma. In addition to four (4) years of work experience involving the daily operations of procuring, organizing, and managing instructional resources for academic programs.
OR
(C) An equivalent combination as defined within the limits of (A) and (B) above .
