POSITION:

The Interim Superintendent of Schools, Dr.William Keresztes, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

 

SUMMER ACADEMY CURRICULUM INSTRUCTOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a valid NYS teaching certificate and be currently employed with the Buffalo Public Schools. 

Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of either African American, Latinx, or Indigenous American history and culture and demonstrate the ability to give professional development in these areas. Previous experience teaching MBK and MSK curriculum preferred.

The MBK Summer Academy will run for 10 full days from July 21st – August 1st, 2024. July 14th – 16th are 3.5 hour teacher training/planning days. Student programming will run for 10 full days from July 21st – August 1st. All summer school programming will take place at I Prep High School. Students participating in the summer program are from the following schools: #3, 19, 27, 30, 31, 37, 53, 59, 74, 80, 89, 94, 97, 156.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

My Brother’s Keeper Curriculum Instructors shall report to the MBK Program Building Principal and the Supervisor of CLRI.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and deliver curriculum for My Brother’s Keeper and My Sister’s Keeper during the Summer
  • Attend training related to anti-racist pedagogy and culturally and linguistically responsive classroom instruction
  • Attend curriculum development sessions to ensure a rigorous, relevant culturally responsive curriculum
  • Guide students through highly engaging inquiry-based learning experiences using hip-hop, music, lyrics, and culture whereby they will be able to integrate their personal narratives within their respective historical and cultural contexts
  • Integrate technology into the learning experience
  • Collect qualitative data to measure program efficacy
  • Manage instructional supplies and materials
  • Chaperon students on local field experiences and facilitate field taxonomies that will expand student learning of topics.
  • Comfortable talking to students about race and equity.


APPOINTMENT:

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and personal interview.

SALARY: Contractual Rate for Curriculum Development and full day extended learning opportunities during the summer.
