NOTICE OF POSITIONS


POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools,
Dr. Pascal Mubenga, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the following teaching positions:
 

INSTRUCTIONAL COACH –TOSA
PS 094 WEST HERTEL ACADEMY

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree and New York State certification in at least one of the following subject areas; Math, Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Reading or Literacy, or Elementary Education. It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or a screen shot of their certifications. Candidates must meet the following criteria: 

  • The candidate must be an employee of Buffalo Public Schools 
  • The candidate must have at least one year of Instructional Coaching experience AND a total of five years of teaching experience 

In evaluating each candidate’s qualifications, preference will be given to the candidate’s understanding and demonstration of effective coaching techniques; coursework and experiences in best instructional practices in the core content areas, data driven instruction and professional development. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and leadership and problem-solving ability. Proficiency in the use of technology, the Common Core Learning Standards, assessments, and techniques to facilitate professional learning for teachers in a confidential relationship that encourages risk taking is essential. 

DUTIES:
The Instructional Coach may be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:


Classroom Support of Individual Teachers 
  • Will serve as a mentor/coach to a cohort of teachers from West Hertel Academy PS #094 that will be identified to participate in NYSED’s District Systems Program 
  • Assisting in establishing a model for equitable and adaptive instruction that the school and district will work towards 
  • Work as a team with the identified cohort of teachers to develop strategies for instructional improvement 
  • Engage in small, rapid cycles of continuous improvement focused specifically on improving specified core, instructional practices 
  • Updating the 2025-2026 SCEP to incorporate emerging insights on using inquiry cycles to improve instruction and to strengthen existing strategies 
  • Designing and testing strategies to support system-wide continuous improvement  
  • Demonstrating effective teaching strategies 
  • Providing assistance in unpacking/ implementing Common Core Learning Standards 
  • Co-planning lessons that align to the CCLS and incorporate differentiated instruction 
  • Facilitating access to instructional materials needed 
  • Assisting with AIS/ RTI requirements 
  • Providing data reports and teaching how to analyze the results
Lead Grade Level/Common Planning Time Meetings 
  • Collaborating with building administrators to executing all components of Grade Level/Common Planning Time meetings. 
  • Scheduling and facilitating regular Grade Level/ Common Planning Time meetings 
  • Analyzing data, deciding the focus of meetings and planning agendas in collaboration with administration 
  • Establishing a reporting out and follow-up process 

Professional Development Activities 
  • Participate in a District Systems two-day kickoff event in Albany, NY on September 17th and 18th of 2025 
  • Participate in a series of NYSED virtual and in person meetings within the 25-26 school year

APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certification, credentials and evaluation of service. This posting is being offered in anticipation of a possible reduction in force. Special consideration will be given to those with experience in the position of an instructional technology coach. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
