POSITION:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certificate and hold one of the following certifications:

  • New York State in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Special Education, Elementary Education (Bilingual Extension Preferred), or World Languages.
  • Candidates must have a combined minimum of five years of certificated teaching and supervisory experience with a minimum of two (2) years at the supervisory level.
  • Candidates must have had experience working with multilingual learners, preferably both at the building and district level, including knowledge of bilingual education and English as a New Language. Experience is preferred managing instructional programs aligned with CR Part 154, supervising staff, familiarity with the current APPR process, developing foundational systems in which to streamline processes, and providing strategic supports to buildings and districts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work on the district level and directly in the school buildings with ENL, bilingual, and classroom teachers to provide assistance with creating, implementing, and improving instruction and programs for ENL and bilingual education.
  • Provide and supervise effective PD opportunities for all teachers, administrators, and support staff that are of sufficient intensity and duration to have a lasting impact on instruction, including the value of home language instruction in acquiring L2 proficiency and content area competency in the bilingual classrooms. This includes follow-up support and technical assistance on the school level.
  • Provide support and guidance to ENL, bilingual, and content area teachers.
  • Assist buildings in the review and analysis of student data to determine appropriate program placement, interventions, acceleration, and necessary program modifications within one-way and two-way programs.
  • Oversee MLL family/parent engagement initiatives, community-based organizations/Institute of Higher Education (IHE) partnerships, and extended learning opportunities including Saturday and summer programming.
  • Collaborate across departments to support multilingual learners, including working with the Office of World Languages to enhance the Seal of Biliteracy implementation in BPS.
  • Facilitate translation and interpretation services district-wide. Manage vendor relationships, RFPs, Board items, contracts, and expenditures related to translation/interpretation or other projects as assigned.
  • Maintain the multilingual telephone hotline and ensure timely dissemination of translated materials.
  • Work with the Division to ensure completion and submission of Title III reports, ensure expenditure of funds to support the supplemental initiatives outlined in the Title III narratives and FS-10.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff; conduct APPRs of teachers and the Division of Multilingual Education staff.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Multilingual Education.
  • Reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Multilingual Education.
