POSITION

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr.Tonja M. Williams, is interested in receiving applications for qualified candidates for the position of: 

 

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS COORDINATOR
(MENTORING AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have at least two years of experience working with Community Schools is preferred. Possess a master's degree in counseling education and hold a current NYS Certificate in Counseling Education. Candidates should be knowledgeable in theoretical and evidence-based methodologies focusing on Comprehensive School Counselor philosophies. A thorough understanding of the Community School model, its practices, and its pillars. Preference will be given to applicants with current City of Buffalo residency

DUTIES:

The Community Schools Coordinator will lead the development, monitoring, and implementation of mentoring programming and activities throughout the Buffalo Public Schools. Establish community partnerships to strengthen the Buffalo Public School Mentoring activities, enrichment opportunities, and programming. The Community Schools Coordinator is responsible for serving as a member of the Student Support Team, working in conjunction with all stakeholders to provide enhanced programming for students, and participating as a liaison between the school and the community.


Expectations of the Community Schools Coordinator include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Take the lead on all aspects of the mentoring program, including organizing facilitators to enhance the enrichment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with building administrators to identify and maintain a safe and respectful environment for participants.
  •  Enhance community awareness of the program by participating in networking and community-based activities.
  •  Develop partnerships with other community groups and organizations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date school data.
  •  Assist in building sustainability of social-emotional support for students and families.
  •  Enhance relationships with local associations.
  • Promote A School and Community Partnership
  • Increase the impact of the community service program.
  •  Work with the community and CBOs to coordinate student clubs during and outside of school hours.
  • Seek opportunities for students to collaborate within our community.
  •  Assist with community events related to the school, including Saturday Academies.

Parental Engagement

  •  Engage parents in understanding the importance by of school attendance, community service, volunteer opportunities, and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with staff to organize and communicate Together Events for families to engage in learning opportunities parallel to their students.
  •  Visit PTO and other parent group meetings to present, and answer questions about school attendance, community partnerships, service opportunities, and enrichment strategies.
  •  Enhance our parent and community engagement through marketing, managing communication tools, and participating in meetings.


Additional Duties

  • Prepare monthly status reports to be presented to district staff.
  • Attend community events to share information.
  • Work with community-based organizations
  • Maintain all files, records, reports, and documents in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Work with building administrator and building-level webmasters to provide information on the school’s webpage and other communication platforms.
  • Other duties as assigned.
